You Were The One
The Story Behind 🎥
‘You don’t have to be perfect to be amazing.’
⋆⋆⋆⋆⋆
”You Were The One, the never-ending search for perfection. The perfect appearance, the perfect character, perfect behavior and the perfect results… ”Only when we reach perfection we will we happy.”
No Siree! Happiness is found inside. It’s there already, anchored, every minute of every day, ready and available for you to find. But when you keep striving for more, when you reach for goals and hold expectations on the level of perfection, you are bound to overshadow it. And that shadow is called ”unhappy”.
You Were the ‘perfect princess’
”You Were The One” was written from the perspective of ”the perfect princess” we all grew up with. The tall, slim, beautiful looking young woman with her perfect charmes, character and talents.
In this song even she, living up to looking and acting perfect in order to marry into the dreamed-of fairytale marriage, collapses. Realizing: living like this isn’t realistic, is exhausting! This perfectly created fake bubble is bound to pop!
She points out to her ”prince charming” how he knew she wasn’t perfect but even so acted along expecting her to continuing being perfect.
It’s a two way street, people. We grow up thinking we should look, walk and talk like the traditional maiden princess and the handsome, strong prince in our lives, but we also expect the people in our lives to add up to that… Let’s not, let’s be happy instead. Live the real happily-ever-after life.
”You knew that everything we had wasn’t reality
stil you blame me for a fairytale that has gone wild. ”- You Were The One

Fun Fact
‘The original instrumental arrangement of ‘You Were the One’ had more of a ‘pop’ style and sound, and it was Producer David van Dorsten who came up with the idea of giving it this tango-like feel.
I am so very happy with the final arrangement and thankful for his rich creativity. Adding the solo violin, inspired by the beautiful Moulin Rouge’s ”Roxanne” arrangement, it felt like all the parts finally came together.
Dreams do come true!
The Making Of
Lyrics
There is a little lover
The one that caught my eye
Said yes to everything
To all my little lies
Our wedding bells rang loudly
As if to give a glance
of lace, imperfect, fray
The veil that marked our lives
I don’t understand you
Don’t know where to begin to
You were the one for me
You knew that everything we had wasn’t reality
Still you blame me for a fairytale that has gone wild
It wasn’t up to me, you knew I would have tried
Ended up walking circles
No left and no more right
Our lives tied up together
Shaking hands and giving smiles
A perfect good example
I should have learned before
How ‘happy ever after’
Won’t come knocking at your door
I don’t understand you
Don’t know where to begin to
I don’t understand you
Don’t know where to begin to
You were the one for me
You knew that everything we had wasn’t reality
Still you blame me for a fairytale that has gone wild
It wasn’t up to me, you knew I would have tried
Please don’t forsaken me now
Do this together somehow
You were the one for me
You knew that everything we had wasn’t reality
Still you blame me for a fairytale that has gone wild
It wasn’t up to me, you knew I would have tried
You were the one for me
You knew that everything we had wasn’t reality
Still you blame me for a fairytale that has gone wild
It wasn’t up to me, you knew I would have tried
You were the one for me
You knew that everything we had wasn’t reality
Still you blame me for a fairytale that has gone wild
It wasn’t up to me, you knew I would have tried
